our story

Off The Back Apparel began at a dinner party with an off-hand comment about bikes. As the conversation had progressed throughout the evening, I had thoughtfully refrained from droning on about bikes, cycling, racing, the Tour, or anything bike related, knowing full well that the other members of the party were not as enthusiastic about bikes as I was. Then, with no prompting of my own, someone asked me about my new bike. I happily prattled on about the bike until well past the appropriate length of time. Someone laughed that I had just been waiting for someone to ask me about my bike. That assertion prompted my partner to add: he just needs a shirt saying, "Ask me about my bike". A short time later, using a plain black t-shirt and some iron-on letters, I had my first shirt design along with some other prototypes. A few months after that, Off The Back Apparel was rolling along.
